April 16, 2012 | Red Deer, AB
Westerner Park President, Michael Donlevy, in association with the MLA for Red Deer South, Cal Dallas, The City of Red Deer Mayor, Morris Flewwelling and Red Deer County Mayor, Jim Wood, launched the official ground breaking of the ENMAX Centrium Expansion Project during a press conference at the ENMAX Centrium this morning.
“This ground breaking event is a monumental day for Westerner Park, said John Harms, CEO and General Manager, Westerner Park. “The expansion will have significant economic impact on central Alberta in attracting national and international events to our facility.”
The upgrade includes 13 more luxury suites, 40 club seats as well as an additional 1,000 seats added to the 6,000 seat ENMAX Centrium facility. Total grant funding for this $3.5 million project will come from the Province of Alberta’s Community Facility Enhancement Program ($1.75 million), The City of Red Deer ($1 million), and Red Deer County ($500,000). Westerner Park will make up any shortfalls in the total construction cost.
Central Albertans can stay informed about the upgrades and new developments through Westerner Park’s social media mediums (Facebook and Twitter) as well as through a new section on the Westerner Park website (www.westernerdays.ca/expansion), that is solely dedicated to the dissemination of news, updates and information about the ENMAX Centrium Expansion Project. The new expansion section of the Westerner Park website was created by REaction Marketing, a full service marketing, web and creative services agency located in Red Deer, Alberta.
The upgrades are estimated to be completed by the 2012/2013 Red Deer Rebels hockey season.
Westerner Park is central Alberta’s largest tradeshow, agricultural, sports, entertainment and convention facility. A not-for-profit organization supported by more than 175 volunteers, Westerner Park generates $150 million annually in economic activity hosting over 1,500 events and 1.5 million visitors each year.
