We are an affective and heard voice for the Red Deer business community because we speak with credibility. We have the ability to bring business together, facilitate a consultative process and speak to all levels of government with a unified voice. You are invited to consider participating as a committee member in setting your Chamber’s policy direction.
The 2006-2007 Board of Directors is pleased to announce the formation of the following committees:
Transportation Committee: is established as a Committee of the Board, reporting through the Board of Directors, to develop policy, review National Policies, review Provincial Policies and establish plans for effective advocacy as they pertain to Transportation issues affecting business. i.e. Howse Pass, Airport, High Speed Rail, alternative transportation.
Finance and Taxation Committee: is established as a Committee of the Board, reporting through the Board of Directors, to develop policy, review National Policies, review Provincial Policies and establish plans for effective advocacy as they pertain to Finance and Taxation issues affecting business. i.e. Severance Transfers to RRSPs, Fiscal Policy, Elimination of Capital Gains when proceeds are re-invested.
Labour Force Committee: is established as a Committee of the Board, reporting through the Board of Directors, to develop policy, review National Policies, review Provincial Policies and establish plans for effective advocacy as they pertain Labour Force/Human Resources issues affecting business. i.e. Eliminating Barriers to Internationally Trained people, Addressing Labour Skills Shortages, Provincial Nominee program, Apprenticeship ratio challenges.
Agriculture Committee: is established as a Committee of the Board, reporting through the Board of Directors, to develop policy, review National Policies, review Provincial Policies and establish plans for effective advocacy as they pertain to Agriculture issues affecting business. i.e. BSE, Agriculture Off Set Credits, Canadian Wheat Board, Bio Refineries and Value added Ag products.
Environment Committee: is established as a Committee of the Board, reporting through the Board of Directors, to develop policy, review National Policies, review Provincial Policies and establish plans for effective advocacy as they pertain to Environmental issues affecting business. i.e. Environmental Assessment Process, Water for Life Alberta's strategy for sustainability, Climate change, Alberta's land use framework, green initiatives.
Civic Affairs Committee: is established as a Committee of the Board, reporting through the Board of Directors, to develop policy, and establish plans for effective advocacy as they pertain to Local Civic issues affecting business. i.e. Annexation, Development of Gaetz Avenue, Municipal budgets, Riverlands development plans, redevelopment of brownfields.
Energy Committee: is established as a Committee of the Board, reporting through the Board of Directors, to develop policy, and establish plans for effective advocacy as they pertain to the renewable and non-renewable energy and services sector, the provincial government's Royaly Review Program, the Canadian industry for energy conservation, nuclear energy, national energy framework.
Health and Education Committee: is established as a Committee of the Board, reporting through the Board of Directors, to develop policy and establish plans for effective advocacy as they pertain to provincial social issues affecting business such as high school completion rates, funding post secondary education, tuition, reforming Canadian healthcare, promoting workplace and workforce health in Canada.
